Kyoto | Jonangu Shrine Weeping Plum

“Weeping Plum and Camellia Festival” is being held at Kyoto Jonangu.

It’s a nice day to feel spring today! I went to Jonangu to see “Weeping plums” with my wife. It’s so warm that the cold seems to be a lie until yesterday. Cold air comes out from the car’s auto air conditioner set at 21 ° C.

It is on the right side of the place that passed through the Jonangu torii gate.

Even though it was a weekday, many people came to see “Weeping Plum”. Waiting time of about 10 minutes to enter the free parking lot.

First pray at the main shrine, then go to “Kamien”. Once inside, the sweet scent of plum blossoms can be felt even with a mask. And what came into my eyes was the beautiful view of the weeping plum blossoms in full bloom. The scenery of “Spring Mountain” where 150 weeping plums are planted is a masterpiece.

Shinen “Spring Mountain”

It is said that “Spring Mountain” was created by imitating “Spring Mountain and Autumn Mountain” of Hikaru Genji’s “Rokujoin” depicted in “The Story of Genji” when Emperor Shirakawa built Jonan Rikyu.

From the entrance of “Kamien” to “Heian Garden”, 120 kinds of camellias and 400 flowers are in bloom one after another. The season is from September to the end of March, so it’s almost the end of the season, but there are still many buds left.

The well-maintained moss and the naturally growing roots of the tree are beautiful. The camellia flowers that fall on the moss are called “ochi tsubaki” and are one of the ways to enjoy the flowers.

Shinen “Heian Garden”

In the “Heian Garden”, which imitates the mansion of the Heian aristocracy, Kikyo and Hagi bloom in autumn, and you can also see the autumn leaves of maple. In addition, on April 29 (Showa Day), an event “Kyokusui Yen” will be held that reproduces the “Utakai” that was held at the palace from the Nara period to the Heian period.

Shinen “Muromachi Garden”

In the Muromachi period style “Chisenkaiyūshikiteien” garden, there is a lotus island in the center of the pond where pine trees that symbolize immortality and longevity grow. There are Tsutsuji Satsuki and Fujidana, so you can see beautiful flowers from now on.
